True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto slams new show-runner Issa López’s take on the series as “so stupid.” In the latest season of True Detective: Night Country, showrunner Issa López attempted to inject a new perspective by introducing a cold and dark atmosphere to differentiate it from its predecessors. However, it seems that the Kathleen Kennedy method of placing a strong female character at the forefront has failed to captivate the audience. Issa López, who has taken to social media to beg for up-votes, seems to be unaware that the show’s lackluster reception may not be due to misogyny but rather because the plot is simply uninteresting.

The show follows Detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) as they navigate the perpetual darkness of Ennis, Alaska, during the Polar Night. Despite its potential, the narrative falls flat as it focuses on overly sensationalized violence against women and issues of colonialism and environmentalism. It appears that Issa López has succumbed to the woke agenda, resulting in a trifecta of globohomo talking points that fail to resonate with viewers.

Now it transpires that True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto, in a since-deleted Instagram post, slammed new show-runner Issa López’s take on the series as “so stupid.”

Issa López, show-runner for True Detective: Night Country, has now fired back at the criticism by Nic Pizzolatto in an interview with Vulture. López said, “I believe that every storyteller has a very specific, peculiar, and unique relationship to the stories they create, and whatever his reactions are, he’s [Nic Pizzolatto] entitled to them. That’s his prerogative. I wrote this with profound love for the work he [Nic Pizzolatto] made and love for the people that loved it. And it is a reinvention, and it is different, and it’s done with the idea of sitting down around the fire, and [let’s] have some fun and have some feelings and have some thoughts. And anybody that wants to join is welcome.” True Detective: Night Country premiered on HBO on January 14th, after nearly five years since the last season aired.

Though they had no direct involvement in Night Country, Pizzolatto, Matthew McConaughey, and Woody Harrelson are all credited as executive producers on the season. Nic Pizzolatto appears to be displeased with the latest season, changing his Instagram bio to read “True Detective S1-3 (NOT Night Country)” and making cutting remarks in Instagram comments. “I certainly did not have any input on this story or anything else,” Nic Pizzolatto allegedly wrote in another comment. “Can’t blame me.”

The creator laughed and called it “so stupid” that season 1’s Tuttle family is funding the Tsalal research station in season 4. Asked if he had any involvement in the new season, Nic Pizzolatto replied, “I certainly did not have any input on this story or anything else. Can’t blame me.”

In response to a question about Rust Cohle returning, the creator said, “Matthew [McConaughey] doesn’t show up, nor would he.”

True Detective is a television series that has gained a cult following since its debut in 2014. The show follows two detectives as they investigate a series of crimes that take place over the course of several years. The series has been praised for its complex storylines, dark atmosphere, and excellent performances from its cast. However, the latest season, titled Night Country, has been marred with controversy. It remains to be seen whether the show will continue to be successful in future seasons.

Yet another lame girlboss protagonist. About as intimidating as a barking chihuahua, and just as annoying.
