Jeremy Renner, known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), opened up about the possibility of returning to the franchise after his recovery from a near-fatal snowplow accident. In an interview with Entertainment “I’m always game,” Renner, 53, stated about taking on his former
MCU role, “I’m gonna be strong enough, that’s for sure. I’ll be ready.”
Renner also revealed that his MCU costars, including Anthony Mackie, have been a source of support during his recovery from the January 2023 accident, which left him with over 30 broken bones. Renner said, “All those guys come to my bedside. They’ve been with me all along through this recovery, so… if they want me, they could have me. It would be something.”
“It’s hard for me to look back, to be honest with you,” he said. “It’s hard for me to look forward. I focus on now and this next step in front of me, ’cause there’s always another obstacle for me right now.”
The actor, who has been recovering for the past 13 months, shared his health update, stating he is now at about “90 percent of all the things I needed to be doing.” Renner emphasized his commitment to recovery, saying, “I’ll do whatever I can… whatever it takes to get better, to get stronger. Recovery will be part of the rest of my life, so I look forward to it.”
Renner admitted that it’s challenging to look back or forward, focusing instead on the present and the next step in his recovery. He also expressed gratitude for his
MCU costars and loved ones who have supported him throughout his ordeal.

“I can’t believe I’m sitting here right now,” Renner said. “I’m very grateful. I’m very happy that I’m moving forward in life, and I’m happy to share this life with the amazing people who I love.”
Last month, Renner praised Anthony Mackie for visiting him in the hospital after his accident. He recalled, “One of the first people at my hospital bed was Anthony Mackie. This accident. He was in Vegas. He shot over, and he’s the first person I saw when I woke up.” Renner and Mackie, who starred together in The Hurt Locker, share a special bond despite not being in constant contact due to their busy schedules and parenting responsibilities.
Speaking about their relationship, the MCU actor stated that even though they “don’t talk all the time,” they will always have a special connection.
“We’re not, like, hanging out all the time, because the problem with having, you know, actor friends, everyone’s so busy and now we’re all parents and we never see each other,” Renner added of Mackie. “We rarely talk to each other, but the connectedness that we have is an always thing.”
