Crystal Dynamics Gives Toothless Apology For Lara Croft Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Citing “Harmful” Depictions

February 14, 2024 by Drake Tungsten 5 Comments

Crystal Dynamics has given a ridiculous apology for the content in the original Tomb Raider games, now inclined in Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, when the games did nothing wrong. The games entertained millions with its beloved character Lara Croft. PlayStation had an epic hit, but modern corporations can’t help themselves when it comes to white characters involved in other cultures.

Crystal Dynamics has condemned the "offensive depictions of people and cultures rooted in racial and ethnic prejudices" in #TombRaider I-III Remastered and says the stereotypes portrayed are "deeply harmful, inexcusable, and do not align with our values."https://t.co/LJlvtNYxKk pic.twitter.com/sSATXmf3Jt

William Morris writes up a scathing supposition of what Crystal Dynamics wanted to say:

Chertok has an interesting take, perhaps they are expecting the project to fail and are trying to make an excuse:

“Why did our game fail? Must be those alt righters again, somehow”

Other users posted a variety of negative responses to the statement by Crystal Dynamics, including a loss of interest in the game, voicing a desire to buy Stellar Blade instead, and blaming Crystal Dynamics for hating on something they didn’t create, as Tomb Raider was originally created by Core Design.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is a remastering of the original games, with updated graphics that frankly look really good.

The good news is that they claim to have left it unaltered, regardless of how “inexcusable” it supposedly is, and the message only displays once, the first time you fire up the game. Hopefully, it can be modded out entirely very easily. Maybe this is just some publicity stunt to get more attention since they’re not axing anything.

How do you feel about this “apology” that Crystal Dynamics gave? Does it sour you on buying Tomb Raider I-III Remastered? Were you not even interested to begin with? Would you rather get Stellar Blade? Leave us a comment!

Crystal Dynamics just wants to create more weak people. As if there isn’t enough weak people already.

You’re welcome. It actually looks like they did a pretty good job of remastering it, and I didn’t even see the message. I think I clicked past it too quickly.
