After Madame Web Box Office Bomb, Silk: Spider Society Fires Every Writer And Shifts Focus To A Male Audience

February 17, 2024 by The Comic Crow 3 Comments

Silk, Marvel Comics

Amazon has reportedly fired the entire writer’s room for Silk: Spider Society and nearly everyone else involved in the project other than the showrunner, Angela Kang, and one executive producer just a day after the disastrous opening of Madame Web.

Silk: Spider Society is going to be the first show from Sony set within their Spider-Man Universe and was put on hold during the writer’s strike last year. Originally, the writers for Silk were supposed to reconvene in January, but as of Friday, they’ve all been removed. With the statement that the show is seeking to target a mostly male audience, the reasons could not be any clearer.

Reacher and Terminal List are both Amazon original shows that were heavily geared toward men and saw massive success. It appears that Amazon is realizing that comic book shows and movies’ primary audience is, and always has been, men.

Phase 4 of the MCU, now dubbed the M-She-U, has made that abundantly clear. The attempts to sideline popular male characters to prop up female ones have been a disaster. And in films that are entirely led by women, like The Marvels, the numbers do not lie.

The Marvels, 2023

The Marvels is the lowest-grossing film in the entire MCU and was a financial disaster for Disney/Marvel. And this follows a long trend of woke and feminist propaganda content from the studio. Recently journalist Christopher Rufo posted an exclusive clip to X showing Bob Iger in 2021 bragging to his employees about inserting her personal politics into their content.

And while Disney is coping with the reality that there is no market within superhero properties for woke, feminist propaganda Amazon and Sony seem to be taking the first steps to course correct.

Amazon is profits first, and Sony cannot afford to take loss after loss at the box office. And now it seems they’re finally embracing the male audience and attempting to bring back interest in their properties.

Disney/Marvel’s failed experiment at pandering to primarily woke, and liberal women with their content may have been an eye-opener for Amazon and Sony in the wake of Madame Web’s failure. While this doesn’t mean that now all of their content will skew towards men, it does show that they understand who the primary audience for comic book properties like Silk: Spider Society is.

She-Hulk & Megan Thee Stallion

And Disney/Marvel may not be too far behind in making their own changes. At the end of the day, money talks. Multiple films and shows have been pushed back to go through extensive reshoots, while others have seemingly been canceled altogether.

While there’s still the disaster of X-Men ’97 on the way next month, Deadpool & Wolverine still appears promising to many fans who hope it will signal a change in the direction of the MCU.

After nearly half a decade of watching the MCU be ripped apart, it seems the industry as a whole may have hit a turning point. Woke and intolerant writers are being removed from projects. AI is very real and is about to take over, and the audience will not show up when they are being disrespected.

What are your thoughts on Amazon and Sony firing the writers of Silk: Spider Society? Could these be the final days of woke feminist propaganda in our films and shows? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Disney will be the last to change, if they do. Bob Iger loaded up Disney with political apparatchiks for his potential presidential bid, replacing people that still had some measure of talent. Those low-functioning dopes aren’t going to cave on political message until they are fired. Maybe Iger as well.

Until then, keep that popcorn hot and buttered, with plenty of salt!

As long as Angela Kang remains the showrunner, “Silk” is doomed.
