A new Bourne movie is reportedly in development, but Matt Damon has not yet confirmed his involvement. The 53-year-old actor appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he discussed the possibility of a sixth Jason Bourne film. German director Edward Berger, known for his work on the 2022 adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front, is reportedly attached to the project.
Damon first portrayed Bourne, a former CIA assassin with no memory of his past, in the 2002 film The Bourne Identity. The series, inspired by Robert Ludlum’s books, consisted of a trilogy completed by The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007).

In 2016, Damon reprised his role in Jason Bourne. A 2012 spinoff, The Bourne Legacy, starred Jeremy Renner as a new character, Aaron Cross. It seems there’s still at least one more story worth telling about the former CIA agent and Treadstone operative played by Matt Damon, even though most fans had assumed his days were over.
Deadline reported in November that Universal Pictures was developing another Bourne sequel with Berger attached to direct. Casting had not begun at that time, according to the outlet. In an interview on The Late Show, Damon states, “No details have been given to me… There’s a great director named Edward Berger… I would love to work with him!”

He continued, “I’m as anxious as you are to see if this thing is great, and that we can do it… At a certain point, someone’s gonna need to take it over. I’m not getting any younger.”
Director Doug Liman helmed the first film, while Tony Gilroy took over for the Renner-led Legacy. Paul Greengrass taking the sequels on was key in putting the franchise on the map. In 2023, Berger’s adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque’s 1928 World War I novel All Quiet on the Western Front took home four Oscars: Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, and Best International Film.
In 2020, producer Frank Marshall revealed plans to revive the Borne franchise in theaters, saying, “I do like the Bourne series, and I do think that’s an opportunity for different filmmakers to come in now. So, I’m hoping that we can find a new story for Bourne and a new filmmaker.”
