The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is gearing up for a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Shang-Chi 2 is set to begin filming in 2025, with director Destin Daniel Cretton returning to helm the project.
The first Shang-Chi movie, released in 2021, was a critical and commercial flop, earning a bad reception of over-production and a confused story. However, what may be even more intriguing for MCU die-hards is the rumor that Iron Fist, another Marvel superhero, will make an appearance in Shang-Chi 2.
Iron Fist first entered the live-action Marvel universe in 2017 through the Netflix series of the same name, which was part of the Defenders shows that also included Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage.
While the Iron Fist series, led by Finn Jones in the titular role, was arguably the least well-received of the bunch, the Defenders shows have since been recognized as canon within the MCU. Richtman’s report suggests that Shang-Chi 2 may not necessarily bring back Jones’ specific version of Iron Fist.
Instead, it could feature the same Iron Fist variant set to appear in the upcoming “Eyes of Wakanda” animated series. This leaves room for speculation about whether the MCU will opt for a fresh start with a new actor or a different interpretation of the character.

Finn Jones has expressed his desire to return to the MCU, but Marvel Studios may prefer to distance themselves from the less-than-stellar reception of the Netflix series. Unlike the beloved portrayals of characters like Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Jones’ Danny Rand didn’t quite resonate with fans in the same way.
Regardless of the specific version of Iron Fist that appears in Shang-Chi 2, it’s unlikely that the character will play a central role. According to Richtman’s report, the plot of the sequel will involve time travel in some capacity, suggesting that there will be plenty of other narrative threads to explore. Iron Fist’s inclusion could be a supporting role, serving as a way to reintroduce the character to casual fans who may have forgotten about him.

I don’t understand the direction Disney Marvel is going. The first Shang-Chi was flat and predictable. Also, I didn’t like the Iron Fist on Netflix. Both stories were not executed well. Anyway, I am passing on the second Shang-Chi
