Disney has officially set a release date for the highly anticipated Star Wars film, “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” marking a significant milestone for fans eagerly awaiting the big-screen adaptation of the beloved series. Scheduled to hit theaters on May 22, 2026, this announcement confirms previous speculations and solidifies the future of the franchise in cinemas.

Directed by Jon Favreau, the creative mind behind the original “Mandalorian” TV series, and co-written with Lucasfilm’s Chief Creative Officer, Dave Filoni, “The Mandalorian & Grogu” promises to deliver an immersive experience directly connected to its small-screen counterpart. With Favreau and Filoni at the helm, fans can expect a seamless transition from the episodic format to the grandeur of the cinematic universe.

The film’s plot details remain shrouded in mystery, but one thing is certain: it will center around the titular characters, Din Djarin and his lovable companion Grogu. Pedro Pascal is set to reprise his role as the voice of Din Djarin, with the possibility of portraying him in live-action sequences should the character reveal his face during the movie. Brendan Wayne, who shares the role with Pascal, has confirmed their involvement, quelling any doubts about the casting.

While excitement mounts for the theatrical release of “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” there lingers uncertainty about the future of the series on Disney+. With the focus shifted towards the feature film, discussions about a potential Season 4 remain speculative. Wayne’s recent comments on the matter suggest that the movie takes precedence, leaving the fate of the series hanging in the balance.

In addition to the “Mandalorian” film, Disney unveiled release dates for other major franchise projects in the pipeline. “Toy Story 5” is set to hit theaters on June 19, 2026, continuing the beloved animated saga. The live-action remake of “Moana,” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, has been pushed back to July 10, 2026, while the animated sequel “Moana 2” is slated for release this November. Meanwhile, “Tron: Ares,” the next installment in the futuristic franchise, will debut on October 10, 2025, starring Jared Leto.
