Blizzard Entertainment’s premier gaming convention, BlizzCon, has been canceled for 2024. This difficult decision comes after careful evaluation over the past year by the organizers of BlizzCon. While disappointing for fans, Blizzard has exciting alternative plans to engage its passionate community.

BlizzCon is a heavily anticipated event in the gaming world, building excitement around Blizzard’s powerhouse franchises like World of Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch, and Hearthstone. Thousands of fans flock to the convention to get an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the latest updates and expansions for their favorite games.

The convention also offered opportunities for fans to interact directly with developers, participate in Q&A sessions, check out new merch, or compete in cosplay contests. For Blizzard, it represents a chance to reward their loyal fanbase.

In the official statement, Blizzard cited wanting to approach 2024 differently as a driving reason behind the difficult call. Still, they emphatically reinforced that this does not dampen their enthusiasm for bringing back BlizzCon bigger and better in future years.

While BlizzCon may be on hiatus, Blizzard has a 2024 planned to connect with fans in new ways. Headlining these events is the 30th Anniversary of the seminal Warcraft franchise. Warcraft revolutionized gaming with its rich fantasy world and epic storytelling, laying the foundation for the modern Blizzard catalog. To celebrate this gaming milestone, Blizzard is planning multiple global, in-person fan events that promise to capture that BlizzCon spirit.

BlizzCon does not turn a profit, in fact we lost money on it every year.

Blizzard saves a lot by cancelling it, esp when customer sentiment is so low and there is nothing to announce.

Microsoft is cost cutting, because AAA is in bad shape.

Blizzard will also have a major presence at popular gaming conventions like Gamescom, sharing development updates on upcoming releases Diablo IV’s first expansion, Vessel of Hatred and World of Warcraft: The War Within.

There are also plans to celebrate the Overwatch franchise by bringing the popular esport Overwatch Champions Series to major events like Dreamhack Dallas and Dreamhack Stockholm.
