Marvel Studios has announced Ralph Ineson as the latest addition to the cast of their upcoming film, The Fantastic Four, where he will portray the iconic villain Galactus, known as the “devourer of worlds.” This casting news follows closely on the heels of earlier reports confirming John Malkovich’s involvement in an undisclosed role. Ralph Ineson joins an ensemble cast that includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (the Human Torch), Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (the Thing), and Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer and Paul Walter Hauser also part of the lineup.
Galactus, a significant figure in Marvel Comics lore, was introduced in 1966 as a survivor of the previous universe’s cataclysmic end. Possessing immense cosmic power, Galactus sustains himself by consuming the life force of entire planets. Directed by Matt Shakman of WandaVision fame and written by a team of writers, The Fantastic Four aims to inject new life into the Marvel Cinematic Universe amidst a string of flops following race swapping, sex swapping and outright retconning of iconic comic book characters by Marvel.
Ralph Ineson’s involvement in the project coincides with his current role in The First Omen and his upcoming collaboration with director Robert Eggers on Nosferatu. The significance of Galactus in Marvel Comics cannot be overstated. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Galactus made his debut in Fantastic Four #48 in 1966 as a survivor of the previous universe’s end. Transformed into the “world devourer” after merging with the sentience of the cosmos, Galactus possesses nearly limitless cosmic power, including the ability to manipulate energy, matter, and reality itself. His insatiable hunger for planetary life force has earned him both fear and awe throughout the galaxy.
The Fantastic Four is set to be a pivotal addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with its exploration of iconic characters and cosmic threats, and may male or break fans’ trust in Marvel’s ability to make entertaining live action adaptions of their favourite heroes and villains.
As the MCU expands its roster of heroes and villains, the inclusion of Galactus opens up new storytelling possibilities. With his cosmic scale and complex morality, Galactus adds depth and intrigue to the cinematic universe, that could the stage for epic conflicts.
Ralph Ineson’s portrayal of Galactus is meant to be a highlight of the film, an attempt at adding gravitas and menace to the role of the “devourer of worlds.” With his commanding presence and nuanced performance, Ineson embodies the cosmic threat posed by Galactus, hoping that The Fantastic Four delivers on its promise of epic storytelling and thrilling action.
Scheduled for release on July 25, 2025, The Fantastic Four is meant to make a significant impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, setting the stage for new adventures and challenges for Earth’s mightiest heroes. As fans await the film’s arrival, the addition of Galactus will hopefully elevate the stakes and expand the scope of the MCU.

So race swapping Reed Richards (white to hispanic) and gender swapping Silver Surfer. (male to female)
Not the worst Marvel has done, but why bother using legacy characters at all, if you’re just going to change them into something else?
