This past week it became clear why the LGBTQ+ community needs intervention, not further affirmation, when Queer author Cait Corrain made fake Goodreads accounts to review bomb fellow Goodreads POC and LGBTQ+ authors, whom she perceived as competition to her upcoming book, giving them bad reviews from these fake accounts.

Cait Corrain is the queer author of an equally queer novel Crown of Starlight. She received a book deal from Del Rey Books in May 2022.
Author Xiran first dropped the bombshell that a fellow author is posting fake reviews: “If you as a debut author are going to make a bunch of fake Goodreads accounts one-star-bombing fellow debuts you’re threatened by can you at least not make it so obvious by upvoting your own book on a bajillion different lists with those same accounts”
The day after Xiran confirmed the proof that it was Cait Corrain: “OK I’ve had enough. How fucking dare anyone spread lies about Bethany, one of the victims of the review bombing, to deflect from the allegations Here are 31 pages of receipts of the review bombing. Everyone, judge for yourself.”
Corrain initially denied the claims and blamed the fake reviews on her friend “Lilly”. It turns out that “Lilly” was a fake imaginary “friend”.
Corrain eventually admitted that she created the fake Goodreads accounts and review bombed her fellow authors, most of whom were POC and some from the LGBTQ+ community.
Corrain apologized but blamed it on suffering from depression, alcoholism, and substance abuse. She claims that she started a new medication in Nov. 2023 and suffered a complete psychological breakdown in December 2023, which caused her to create fake accounts and review bomb fellow LGBQT+ and POC authors, whom she perceived as competition, then proceeded to give them bad reviews from these fake accounts.
Del Rey Books confirmed in a tweet that they canceled Cait Corrain’s book deal: “Del Rey will no longer publish CROWN OF STARLIGHT by Cait Corrain or any other works on that contract.”
Her agent, Becca Podos, also confirmed that she will no longer work with Cait Corrain: “Cait and I will not be continuing our partnership moving forward. I deeply appreciate the patience of those directly impacted by last week’s events as I worked through a difficult situation.”

Although it may be tempting to claim that “the LGBTQ+ community are the real bigots,” it’s weak boomer-tier energy to do so. The stakes are far higher than who the real bigots are. What we get a glimpse of here is that the LGBTQ+ community are deeply tortured, troubled, and wayward souls.
This whole sordid ordeal shows that the LGBTQ+ community is psychologically scarred and in serious need of intervention. Pray for them.
