Variety published an article titled “Why the Fall of Comic-Book Movie Culture Is Inevitable”. He writes: “It’s not just the bad sequels. It’s far simpler: The fantasy heroes have been strip-mined” and “Comic-book movie culture is, after all, only as good as the movies it gives us. And this was the year that the corporations — let’s name names: Disney and Warner Bros. — failed. They made bad movies. What if they’d made good movies? This shit is starting to fail because it is spent. Because it’s been used up.” Gleiberman is wrong, all Hollywood needs to do is hire Mark Millar, Graham Nolan, or Chuck Dixon.

The movies are bad, not because the IP has been used up, they are bad because of two main reasons.

The first, as Mark Millar put it, screenwriters “cannot come up with anything”. Screenwriters should stick to doing adverts and music videos. If Hollywood wants to produce good comic book movies again, they need to tell good stories, and to tell good stories, Hollywood needs to hire legends of the comic book industry who has proven track records like Mark Millar, Graham Nolan, or Chuck Dixon.
The second reason is that Hollywood has become obsessed with the woke agenda. Even Disney CEO Bob Iger realized as much when he recently said that “creators at Disney have lost sight of what their jobs should be, entertain first, not messages” and added that “stories infused with ‘positive messages for the world’ can be great but that it shouldn’t be the primary job”.
When it comes to an agenda, Hollywood should take the advice of Graham Nolan, co-creator of Bane, when he tweeted on X: “Coming in 2024. I readily admit that I do “agenda” comics. My agenda? ENTERTAINMENT! FUN! ADVENTURE! THRILLS! #Comicsgate #NewYear2024 http://compasscomics.com”
Gleiberman raises one valid point, though, and it is that of consistency. He writes: “James Gunn, in his role as the executive guru (along with Peter Safran) of DC Studios, now ready to wipe the slate clean and launch a new universe of DC storytelling, wants to fix it all with quality control. He’s basically saying, “Fuck those Zack Snyder movies. My Superman will be boss!” Yes, except that his Superman is going to feel like it’s about the 12th Superman.”

Hollywood could have given the fans 12 Superman movies if it was the same Superman in 12 different movies. One of the most successful movie franchises, James Bond, produced 21 Bond movies loved by the fans (not counting the ‘67 spoof or the bad parodies Daniel Craig starred in) without “Bond-fatigue” setting in. The difference is that those 21 movies were based on the source material, which was good stories. James Bond was the same Bond in every single movie since Dr No.
So come on, Hollywood, save comic book movie culture and get Graham Nolan, Mark Millar, or Chuck Dixon to write the stories.
What do you think about the comic industry hiring Mark Millar, Chuck Dixon, or Graham Nolan? Leave a comment and let us know.
I think it’s not going to happen unless Millar, Dixon, and Nolan agree to be photographed in compromising positions with underaged Haitian girls.
Hollywood will use screenwriters because they own screenwriters, and got blackmail material on them long before they wrote their first line of script.
Real artists have ethics, and talent, and Hollywood doesn’t want ethics and talent, they want an army of mindless goyim consumers that will shovel money at them and believe whatever they tell them. The herd doesn’t need quality, they need whatever cheap feed the shepard throws at them.
Nailed it. They don’t need money, they need narrative
