While the creative team behind the Little Mercmaid proved AI can be a great vision aid tool for shortening the time frame needed to brainstorm ideas, others prove ingenuity of AI can be harnessed for far more nefarious purposes. One Simon Gloom, apparent “Trump Reply guy” proves it can be used to lure unsuspecting customers for a con. Simon Gloom goes by the handle CovfefeTheLich on X. It is a rather odd choice considering his recent attention whoring tweets insult people who would’ve caught on to the reference contained within such a handle.
For those who do not know, back during the Trump presidency, back when X was still called Twitter, Trump famously committed a humorous Twitter blunder when he misspelled the word coverage in one of his tweets. Perhaps Trump had greasy fingers from chomping down on a good ‘ol American burger for breakfast that day, or it was the need for the dopamine hits X manages to program into all who have used the platform present and past, whatever the case, the word covfefe was born that day on such an occasion. The media jumped on Trump for making a simple typo error that all are prone to from time to time on X. Really, no one was safe until Elon Musk introduced the edit button to X that Twitter users had been clamoring for ages about.
Covfefe had turned Trump into a laughing stock, or so the media wanted people to believe it was so. In reality, Trump’s supporters found the error endearing and down to earth. It humanized the man in the Oval Office. That is the type of thing that can cause a president to have a toy stuffed animal named after him like it did for Teddy Roosevelt. Americans are not so big on propriety as those who went on about the dignity of the Oval Office needing restoration during the Trump presidency insisted on.

What is the point in bringing all of this up? It is likely that during the Trump presidency, Simon Gloom had the lowly existence of a Trump reply guy. This is all speculation of course, but why else would he use the word covfefe in his handle otherwise? His latest tweets certainly leave no room for doubt about his real views regarding Trump supporters.

Truly, Simon Gloom has not thought his actions through, because those he is trying to cater to have no love for AI usage. Even for something as minor as concept art for a throw-away comic, because that is what it is looking like right now. No images have been presented on X besides those made by AI. Comics require more than still shots, and that is currently beyond the existing functions of AI. Human aid is needed. Does Gloom even have the skills to achieve that? Who knows.
To those in the crowdfunding space on X, be mindful of looking beyond the account handle of promotional posts there or anywhere online. You have the right to make an informed purchase. That is the whole point of purchasing indie after all.
