In what promises to be a visual spectacle, Hollywood solves the DEI dilemma when making monster movies in a stunning and brave move. Warner Bros. has unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, directed by Adam Wingard, marking the fifth installment in the rebooted franchise. This follows the success of its 2021 predecessor, Godzilla vs. Kong, which saw the iconic Titans clash and eventually team up to defeat a common enemy, Mechagodzilla.

Returning characters from the previous film include Dr. Ilene Andrews (Rebecca Hall), Bernie Hayes (Brian Tyree Henry), and Jia (Kaylee Hottle), with Dan Stevens joining the cast as a new character named Trapper. The trailer introduces a new threat, the Skar King, portrayed as a formidable adversary that challenges both Godzilla and Kong.

The film delves into the histories of these Titans, exploring their origins and their connections to humankind, along with uncovering the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond. A central theme revolves around the uneasy alliance between Godzilla and Kong as they face a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within their world.

In a stunning and brave move of compliance and pandering, Hollywood solved the DEI dilemma faced when monsters are the stars of a movie by making a deaf, mute native girl named Jia, who possesses a special connection, sense an impending danger that even the Titans fear, pivotal to the movie. This leads the characters on a journey to Kong’s kingdom, where they discover that the looming threat is a call for war, signaling the arrival of the Skar King.

Director Adam Wingard emphasizes the evolution of the monsters’ relationship, highlighting the necessity for them to work together despite their differences. He describes their dynamic as akin to a “buddy-cop dysfunctional relationship,” with influences drawn from ’80s action films.

One of the key revelations in the trailer is the introduction of a new Titan named Shimo, an ice monster residing in the Hollow Earth. Shimo’s destructive ice powers pose a significant challenge to both Godzilla and Kong, raising the stakes for the impending battle.

The marketing materials hint at Skar King initially being portrayed as the main antagonist, but the trailer suggests that Shimo may emerge as the true villain of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The ice Titan’s formidable abilities and menacing presence elevate the threat level, setting the stage for an epic showdown between the Titans.

Despite initial expectations, Shimo’s introduction adds a new dimension to the film’s narrative, presenting a fresh and formidable adversary for Godzilla and Kong to overcome. As the trailer builds anticipation for the film’s release on March 29, 2024, fans eagerly await the epic clash between these legendary monsters and the unveiling of the true extent of the threat posed by Shimo.

I already had no interest, this doesn’t help. These movies have been huge disappointments.

This character was in the previous movie. She is one of the surving tribal of the inhabitants of Skull Island and taught Kong sigh language. It would be weird if the character wasn’t present for the sequel given how important she was in the last movie. If you want to look for woke stuff in The Monsterverse try Monarch.
